17th January 2012: Islington Play's Children Centre recognised by Ofsted for its outstanding work IPA's Children's Centre in Paradise Park has been rated as Good overall by Ofsted, with two features being recognised as of outstanding quality - its care and support for families and its approach to equality and diversity. The nursery based at the centre was also rated as good in Feb 2011. The Ofsted inspector said that "Paradise Park is a vibrant and welcoming centre which exploits its unique location in a park to place itself at the heart of its community. The centre's community café and its outdoor play areas are highly valued by families... The personal testimonies from parents confirm the centre's outstanding quality of care and support. ‘I always walk out feeling ten times better than when I walked in,' was the view from one parent which reflects the views of many." Keep an eye on this page for further information on this upcoming session. 27th July 2011: Play Day 2011 Join us, the borough's 12 adventure playgrounds and many more for Islington's Play Day celebrations on Wednesday 3rd August, 11am - 4pm at Paradise Park, N7. 27th July 2011: Islington Play wins 2011 international play award! Cardiff, July 2011: three members of Islington Play Association attended the 50th anniversary ‘Gold' conference held by the International Play Association to celebrate the unique work of play professionals and play advocates and to look back at excellent practice and innovative ideas from across the world. IPA's Treehouse project was given an award in recognition of its implementation of article 31 of the UN convention on the Rights of the child; ‘the right to play'. The reason for this great success was that the IPA project respects and promotes the article in many different ways from encouraging children to take part in an activity that has risk, working with tools and to create an outcome that they not only have fun making but can also have fun playing with afterwards. It is a great achievement as this is international recognition and there was much competition 13th June 2011: Islington Play presents its programme of free play events for Summer 2011 Islington Play is proud to present its 2011 Summer Programme of Free Play Events, including events run in conjunction with Greenspace in the borough's parks, the weekend family play days at Lumpy Hill Adventure Playground funded by Islington Giving, and festivals, fun days and more. 14th December 2010: Land Trust "In Principle" Agreement Anita Grant, Director of Islington Play, met with Eleanor Schooling, Head of Children's Services, Thanos Morphitis, Lead for Strategy and Commissioning and Richard Watts, Executive Member for Children and Young People, in a follow up meeting to the one held on 23rd September to discuss the Islington Play's proposal to establish a "Land Trust". The outcome of the meeting was that there is an "in principle" agreement for the asset transfer of the adventure playground sites to a Land trust for children. 3rd December 2010: Children's Protest at Threats to Close their Playgrounds An exhibition of over 200 postcards from children will be on display at the Islington Town Hall from 3pm on Monday 6th December. Children at playschemes and adventure playgrounds across the borough have contributed their thoughts and feelings to show what the children will miss out on if facilities are forced to close due to government-imposed cuts in funding to pay for an economic crisis caused by banker's greed. 13th October 2010: Public Meeting to Save Play Over 50 families came to Timbuktu Adventure Playground in a Fun Day environment to speak with local councillors, including Richard Watts the Executive Member for Children and Young People, about the importance of play in Islington and the value of adventure playgrounds. 23rd September 2010: Land Trust Proposal Anita Grant, Director of Islington Play, met with John Foster, the Chief Executive of Islington Council, Catherine West, Leader of the Council, Richard Watts, Executive Member for Children and Young People, and Lord Chris Smith to discuss the Islington Play's proposal to establish a "Land Trust" to take over ownership of adventure playgrounds to protect sites in perpetuity from sale and commercial development.
